Poetry Is Life

Poetry is not a serious business
Or at least it shouldn’t be
It’s too raw
It can’t be put into a suit
And told to show up at 9:00
It must be taken as it is
Naked and beautiful
For all the world to see
A person’s soul on full display
The great joys and the great pains

Poetry cannot be tamed
Or put into a box
Poetry is tireless
Poetry works three jobs
Just to keep writing poetry
Poetry is an obsession
It keeps you up at night
Poetry is in your dreams

Poetry knows exactly what it wants
And has no time for games
Poetry is more than a business
Poetry is life
And life is poetry
