Muay Thai Bag Work – Olas Altas, Manzanillo, Mexico
I got Lasik surgery on my eyes about three years ago and the doctor told me no more sparring.
Prior to the surgery, the doctor said I only had 10% of normal vision.
So, everything I was doing, I was doing with 10% vision – boxing, surfing, skateboarding.
Getting Lasik was one of the best things I ever did – my vision is perfect now.
But I stopped training boxing and Muay Thai except for the occasional shadow box.
The surfing season is winding up here, so I got a gym membership.
The gym has a heavy bag, which made me very happy.
I’d been missing boxing and Muay Thai a lot.
Still shaking the rust off, but it feels great to be moving around again.
I’m not throwing with power, here.
Just focusing on flowing, using good technique, and staying home on defense.
There are so many things you can work on when hitting the bag.
Never gets boring to me.
There are lots of subtle things going on in this clip:
✓Controlling distance
✓Staying balanced
✓Being responsible on defense
✓Visualizing shots, defending, and countering
✓Improvising combos
✓Footwork
✓Head movement
✓Switching stances
✓Timing
✓Setting rhythm & breaking it
✓Changing levels
✓Feints
✓Taking angles
Time to sharpen up the blades again.
