How to Conquer Resistance

It’s normal to feel resistance to life changes.

The more important the change, the greater the resistance.

Quitting drinking or smoking – huge resistance.

Showing up to the gym for the first time – huge resistance.

Adopting a new diet program – huge resistance.

Starting the business you always wanted – huge resistance.

Feeling resistance to these changes does not mean you are weak.

It means you are human.

Practice self-compassion.

Acknowledge the resistance.

Then do it anyway.

Everything you want is on the other side of resistance.

You have to confront the resistance if you want the reward.

It’s part of the deal.

Your ego – the part of you that is keeping you stuck – will scream every excuse it can think of.

Some of the excuses may be compelling:

‘’I don’t have the time.’’

‘’I don’t have the money.’’

‘’I don’t have the talent.’’

These are all lies.

They are part of the resistance.

If you have the dream, then you already have everything you need.

The only thing left to do is face the resistance.

But facing the resistance is hard.

Why should you do it?

If you think facing the resistance is hard, think about the consequences of not facing it:

Getting old without living the life you wanted, and not being able to turn back the clock.

Living the rest of your life with regret because you didn’t have the courage to face the resistance when you had the chance.

Failing yourself and your family by not being the best you could be.

That’s the cost of not facing the resistance.

Now, get out there and make your future self proud.
